Our Favorite Cambridge Squares (and Why We Love Them)

Our Favorite Cambridge Squares (and Why We Love Them)
Cambridge life revolves around its squares. Each one has its own character, whether it’s history, nightlife, innovation, or just a great bagel. We asked our team which squares they love most, and here’s what they shared.
Harvard Square
Bustling, historic, and always changing, Harvard Square is packed with shops, restaurants, and street performers, all framed by the Harvard campus. It’s also one of the busiest Red Line stops, making it easy to connect with the rest of the city.
“Harvard Square can’t be beat. It has everything you’re looking for, and it’s amazing for walking around and people-watching.”
“I love Harvard Square for Mr. Bartley’s Burgers and BerryLine Frozen Yogurt.” – Terry
Central Square
Central Square is eclectic and full of energy. From music venues to international dining, it’s a hub for culture and creativity. The public art and murals give it a distinctive flavor, and the Red Line stop makes it easy to get anywhere in Greater Boston.
Kendall Square
Known as one of the world’s most innovative neighborhoods, Kendall Square mixes biotech offices and tech startups with restaurants, cafés, and green space along the Charles River. It’s also home to the Kendall Square Cinema, a local favorite for indie films.
Porter Square
Porter Square blends practicality with personality. It has a major Red Line stop, a shopping plaza, and some of the best Japanese dining in Cambridge. But what really makes it shine are neighborhood staples like Bagelsaurus and Porter Square Books.
“I love Porter for Bagelsaurus and Porter Square Books, it’s my happy spot.” – Emily
“I love Porter Square for Bagelsaurus and Cambridge Naturals.” – Terry
“Porter sq is a favorite because it offers a little bit of urban and neighborhood feel compared to other parts of the city. Has the red line and commuter rails, with locally owned shops and boutiques. Plenty of art, entertainment, and education. Home to Lesley University.” – Carlos
Inman Square
Inman doesn’t have its own T stop, but that hasn’t stopped it from thriving. With cozy cafés, local restaurants, and live music, it has a true neighborhood feel. Many people consider it one of Cambridge’s hidden gems.
Honorable Mention: Kirylo Square
Kirylo Square, at the corner of Thorndike Street and Third Street in West Cambridge, may feel more like a street corner than a traditional square. But it carries special meaning for our team. The square honors the Kirylo brothers, including our own Joanna’s grandfather, who all served as World War II veterans. For us, it represents the deep roots and personal connections that make Cambridge more than just a place to live.
