Autumn foliage and pedestrians in Harvard Square, Cambridge, with a few pumpkins and fall decorations along the streetscape.

October in Greater Boston is one of those brief stretches when everyone collectively decides they need cider donuts, pumpkins, foliage, and at least one activity involving a corn maze.

And fortunately, there is plenty happening after October 7.

Whether you are looking for a pumpkin patch near Boston, a fall festival, a corn maze, or Halloween things to do closer to the city, we pulled together some of the best options around Greater Boston for the rest of October 2026.

Some require a drive. Others are happening right in Somerville, Cambridge, Medford, and Stoneham.

Pumpkin Patches & Fall Farms Near Boston

Parlee Farms in Tyngsborough

For the classic pumpkin-picking experience, Parlee Farms grows pumpkins across roughly 10 acres and typically offers pumpkin picking from mid-September through late October. Apple picking also continues into late October, depending on crop availability.

That makes this a good option if you want to combine apple picking near Boston with a pumpkin patch in one trip.

The farm also has animals, a farmstand, and seasonal food. Our local-gem move here is obvious but justified: get the cider donuts. October is not the month for restraint.

Because crops and field conditions change, check the farm's latest picking information before making the drive.

Honey Pot Hill Orchards in Stow

If your ideal fall outing requires getting mildly lost, Honey Pot Hill Orchards has several mazes, including its Monster Maze.

The farm describes the Monster Maze as the largest hedge maze in North America, at roughly two miles long, and says it takes about 45 minutes to complete. It is scheduled on weekends and holiday Mondays through the weekend of October 24–25. Hayrides also generally operate on weekends during September and October.

There are also apples, farm animals, and cider donuts, making this one of the better choices if you want a full fall-farm outing rather than just grabbing a pumpkin and returning to civilization.

Connors Farm in Danvers

Connors Farm is particularly useful if your search is less “peaceful orchard stroll” and more “please provide enough activities to occupy everyone for several hours.”

Its 2026 Fall Fun season runs through November 1, with a corn maze, hayrides, train rides, jumping pillows, pedal carts, play areas, and other activities included with general admission.

At night, the farm also offers seasonal options including its Flashlight Maze and Haunted Fields.

So if you have been searching for a corn maze near Boston or want a daytime fall activity that can transition into something spookier after dark, this is one of the most comprehensive options.

Halloween Events & Fall Festivals Closer to Boston

HONK! Festival | Somerville & Cambridge

October 9–11, 2026

One of Somerville's most distinctive fall traditions returns October 9–11.

The HONK! Festival of Activist Street Bands brings musicians from around the world into the streets of Somerville, culminating in the HONK! Parade into Cambridge. Events take place throughout the weekend, with much of the activity centered around Davis Square.

It is not technically a harvest festival, but it absolutely belongs in an October Greater Boston guide.

Harvard Square Oktoberfest & HONK! Parade | Cambridge

October 11, 2026

On Sunday, October 11, the HONK! festivities spill into Cambridge for the 47th Annual Harvard Square Oktoberfest and 21st HONK! Parade.

The Harvard Square Business Association has the event scheduled for October 11, with an October 12 rain date.

This is an especially easy fall outing for anyone who wants something accessible by public transit rather than spending an October weekend sitting in traffic behind 400 other people headed toward the same cider donut.

Jack-O'-Lantern Nights at Stone Zoo | Stoneham

Thursdays–Sundays through October 31

A brand-new option for 2026 is Jack-O'-Lantern Nights at Stone Zoo.

From October 8 through Halloween, the event runs Thursday through Sunday evenings from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m., transforming the zoo into an illuminated Halloween display with glowing pumpkins and larger-than-life sculptures.

One useful thing to know: this is an evening seasonal event rather than a nighttime zoo visit, and Zoo New England notes that animals are not on exhibit during Jack-O'-Lantern Nights.

For Somerville, Medford, Arlington, and Cambridge residents, this is also one of the closest big Halloween attractions on the list.

Harvest Your Energy Festival | Medford

October 17, 2026

Medford's Harvest Your Energy Festival returns to Riverbend Park on Saturday, October 17.

The annual community event focuses on sustainability and clean energy, with exhibits, activities, food, live music, and opportunities to learn more about local environmental initiatives. The 2026 event is scheduled from 12 to 3 p.m. near the Medford wind turbine.

You can find current city event information through the City of Medford.

It may be the only harvest festival where you leave knowing more about renewable energy than pumpkins, which feels extremely Greater Boston.

SomerStreets: Monster Mash | Somerville

October 18, 2026 | 1–5 p.m.

This one absolutely belongs near the top of the local calendar.

On Sunday, October 18, SomerStreets: Monster Mash takes over Somerville Avenue for an afternoon of live music, interactive art, food vendors, and Halloween activities.

The City of Somerville lists the event from 1 to 5 p.m., with October 25 as the severe-weather date.

For people who live in Somerville or nearby Cambridge and Medford, it is an easy way to get an actual neighborhood Halloween event without having to turn the day into an expedition.

Pumpkin Float & Lantern Parade | Medford

October 24, 2026

Medford has another fall event worth putting on the calendar: the city's Pumpkin Float and Lantern Parade at Wright's Pond on Saturday, October 24.

The city has confirmed the date and location on its 2026 events calendar, with additional event details expected closer to October. Check the City of Medford before heading out for the latest information.

This is exactly the kind of hyper-local fall tradition that is easy to miss if your entire Halloween search strategy consists of typing “things to do near Boston” into Google and surrendering control of your weekend.

Salem Haunted Happenings | Salem

Throughout the Rest of October

No Greater Boston-area Halloween list gets very far before Salem inevitably appears.

Salem Haunted Happenings runs throughout October with ghost tours, performances, markets, family events, and other Halloween programming.

For anyone visiting after this guide publishes, October 2026 programming includes events such as Lanterns in the Woods, Kids' Fun Fest, Salem Night Faire dates later in the month, and numerous theatrical and Halloween-themed events.

The obvious warning is crowds. Haunted Happenings says Salem now welcomes more than one million visitors each October, so commuter rail or other transportation planning is worth considering before heading north.

Harvard Scare | Cambridge

October 30–November 1, 2026

Harvard Square is also planning Harvard Scare Halloween events from October 30 through November 1.

The dates are already on the Harvard Square Business Association's 2026 schedule, although full programming has not yet been announced.

That makes this one worth bookmarking for Halloween weekend, especially if you want something in Cambridge without traveling outside the urban core.

Making the Most of Fall in Greater Boston

One of the things we like about living and working around Greater Boston is how quickly the experience can change from one town to the next.

You can spend Saturday walking through a pumpkin patch outside the city, then be at a Somerville street festival, a Cambridge parade, or a Medford community event the following day. Those differences in parks, events, transit, local businesses, and everyday routines are also part of what we help people think through when they are deciding where they want to live.

The Santana Team has helped more than 500 clients since 2014, and our approach goes beyond comparing bedrooms and square footage. We help buyers and sellers understand the towns, neighborhoods, and day-to-day lifestyle around the property too.

If a move is part of your plans this fall, connect with the Santana Team to talk through your Greater Boston options.
